AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY
PROGRESS AT KUMEU DEVELOPMENT OF DISTRICT [from our own* correspondent] KUMEU, Thursday A decidedly optimistic note was struck at the annual smoke concert of the Kumeu Agricultural and Pastoral Association in the Kumeu Hall last evening. There was a large attendance from all parts of the district, and Mr. J. Winchester, president of the association, presided. Mr. Winchester, in welcoming delegates from t!io Auckland, Holensville, Albany, Waiwera. and other societies, alluded to the definite progress being made by the Kumeu Association ir. spite of setbacks. This, was most encouraging to members and was a great tribute to '&ho hard work of the secretary, Mr. Patterson, who had done much to place the show and the society upon a sound footing.
Replies to the welcome were made by several visitors.
"People in the South do not realise the great possibilities of the country north of Auckland," said Mr. J. P. Kalaugher (Auckland), who added that he noted the remarkable progress made during the past 20 years.
Alluding to the holding of the lloyal Show in Auckland next year, Mr. Kalaugher thanked the Kumeu society for its donation of £2 2s to the 6how, mentioning that Kumeu was the only society in the province to contribute. Indications were that the Royal Show at Auckland in February would be the greatest dairy show ever held in the Dominion. Mr. Coughlan (Helensvillo) emphasised the value of all kindred societies working in unity for the good of the district as a whole. On behalf of his society he promised a donation of £2 2s to" the Royal Show. Mr. H. S. W. King, on behalf of the Auckland Provincial Council, added his good wishes for the Kumeu society's success, advocating the society taking a wide interest in the general problems of farmers. The secretary of the Auckland Provincial Council outlined the policy of the council with reg;ard to country shows.
