RAIN IN WIDE AREA GREAT BENEFIT TO PASTURES Copious rains, ieh will be of great benefit to pastures, fell throughout the province during the week-end. The following reports were supplied yesterday by Herald correspondents:— Pukekohe. —Following showers on Saturday heavy rain set in shortly after 2 p.m., and outdoor sports, had to bo abandoned. With temperatures remaining mild, the rain will maintain a rapid rate of growth in pasture and garden, Hamilton. —Heavy rain fell during Friday niglit, early on Saturday morning and in tho afternoon. For the 2-1 hours ended at 9 a.m. on Saturday a fall of .43in. was recorded. Outdoor pastimes had to be abandoned on Saturday afternoon. was welcomed by farmers, although the land received a good soaking last Saturday, more rain was needed. Pastures throughout the Waikato are in lent condition and heavy crops of ensilago arc being garnered for winter fodder. Tho milk yield is exceptionally heavy and production is being maintained at a high level. Tauranga.—Heavy rain commenced to fall shortly after midnight on Friday and continued without interruption on Saturday. Pastures, which were somewhat backward, received a thorough soaking, as the fall is tho heaviest for some months. Whakatane.—'Welcome rain which fell steadily on Saturday will further improve the prospects for tha season and should establish sufficient feed to last well into tho summer,-months. The warm spring weather experienced this year has had a very beneficial effect on pastures generally, and in almost every part of the district there is &n abundance of feed. Opotiki.—Steady rain fell all day oa Saturday and outdoor sports were abandoned.
