DAMAGE BY FIRE
POINT CHEVALIER HOUSE TWO ROOMS GUTTED Two rooms were gutted as a result of a fire which broke out at a six-roomed house occupied by Mr. L. G. Gregory, at 511 Point Chevalier Road, Point Chevalier, on Saturday morning. Tho rest of the house was slightly damaged by smoke. The flames were extinguished by the Point Chevalier brigade and a machine from the Western Districts station also attended. The house was insured for £SOO in the South British office.
OUTBREAK IN CABARET LITTLE DAMAGE DONE An outbreak of fire occurred at the Peter Pan Cabaret yesterday morning, and a cubicle partition, four lounges, two chairs and a table were damaged, and windows were cracked by the heat. The fine evidently originated in a cubiclo near the ladies' dressing room, presumably from a cigarette end. Smoke was seen issuing from windows of the building by the caretaker of near by premises shortly beforo 7.30, and he immediately gave the alarm. Two machines from the city station were quickly on the scene, and the fire was suppressed by a " first-aid " hose. Very little damage was caused by water. "When the pabaret was closed everything appeared to be in order, but evidently there was a cigarette end not extinguished, which caused a smouldering fire," said the manager, Mr. Neil Edgar, last evening. He paid a tribute to the manner in which the brigade put out the fire without causing damage by water. The furnishings are insured for £1250 in the Yorkshire office.
