CAR STRIKES POLE
LITTLE GIRL INJURED DRIVER SLIGHTLY HURT Concussion and head injuries were received by Betty Beesley, aged eight years, daughter of Mr. Percy Beesley, of New Brighton Road, Otahuhu, as a result of a motor-car in which she was a passenger colliding with a telegraph pole on the southern side of the Ellerslie overhead railway bridge yesterday afternoon. The car was driven by Mr. W. A. Pilcher, of Panama Road, Otahuhu, who also received head injuries, and was travelling toward Otahuhu. A third occupant, Miss Joy Beesley, an elder 6ister of the injured child, was unhurt. The accident occurred when the car skidded on the greasy surface at the corner and struck the pole head-on. The front portion of the vehicle was badly damaged. The injured girl and the driver were taken to the Auckland Hospital by a passing motorist, but after attention Mr. Pilcher was able to go to his home. The girl's condition was stated last evening to be fairly serious.
