BOWLING

OPENING AT ST. HELIERS The official opening of the St. Helierß Bowling Club's season was held on Saturday. in apite of tho heavy rain experienced. Th'-re was a large attendance of members and visitors, including representatives of th>> Auckland Bowling Centre, headed by the prrsident, Mr. R. Sheath. Tho president of the club. Mr. J. welcomed the visitors, after which the green was declared open. The rain prevented play on the greens, but a number of those present took part in indoor games. R EMU ERA CLUB Following are the results of matches played by members of the Remuera Bowling Club:—Bray Senior Badges: Macey, H. Johnson, Allen. McMillan. 22. v. W. Jackson, W. T. ONEHUNGATOURNEY The following skips have entered teams for the Onehunga Bowling Club's full-rink tournament next Wednesday: Loram (Rocky Nook), Carter, de Launay, Lancaster (Carlton), Drake (Hillsborough), Donaldson (Grey Lynn), Lundon (Devonport), Coppins, Joll (Ellerslie), Baker (Mount Eden). Townsend (Rawhiti). Hooper, Wright (Epsom), Smyfheman (Papatoefoe). Lollier (Mnngere), Livingstone. Robertson, Gatland, Vella, Wigginton (Onehunga). WHTTIORA CLUB'S OPENING [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON. Saturday There was a large attendance at the Whitiora Club's green this afternoon, when the 1933-31 season was officially opened. The president, Mr. J. N Irvine, welcomed the visitors. The president of the South Auckland Bowling Centre, Mr. S. V. Tyler, congratulated tho club on its fino greens and the progress it had made. He mentioned that there had been a great increase in tho popularity of bowling as a pastime in the Hamilton district, and said it was particularly noticeable that many young men were taking up the game. The games which followed were interrupted by rain.
