BANK OFFICER RETIRES
INJURED WHEN ON DUTY ATTEMPTED HOLD-UP RECALLED [by telegraph—own correspondent] DUNEDIX. Friday The retirement for health reasons is announced of Mr. C. A. Thompson, manager of the North Dunedin branch of the Bank of New Zealand. Two years ago Mr. Thompson was badly burned about the face by ammonia which was thrown at him by a man who attempted to rob the bank's office at North-East Valley, where Mr. Thompson was on duty at the time and since then he has been in indifferent health.
Mr. Thompson joined the Colonial Bank in 1893, and two years later, when that institution was absorbed by the Bank of New Zealand, was retained in the employ of the latter institution.
