GREATER CHRISTCHURCH
PROPOSED EXTENSION COMMITTEE'S SUGGESTION A proposal that steps be taken to arrange a system of rating equitable and uniform so that the barrier to amalgamation of areas that should bo in the city of Christchurch may be removed and that the natural accretioning of the metropolitan area should not be unduly retarded, was submitted in a report presented at a conference of local bodies in the Christchurch metropolitan and contiguous area a few days ago. The report was framed by a committee appointed at a previous similar conference, when the question of the amalgamation of local bodies was discussed. The committee recommended that such areas as the Cashmere Hills, Fendalton and Wairarapa Ridings of the Waimairi County, and the Hiccarton Borough and similar areas which are ready for municipal administration should be given an early opportunity of determining whether they wish to join the city. The report was referred to the local bodies concerned for their consideration.
