Charlie Chaplin announces his intention of refilrning A Woman of Paris.'' as a talking film, as. soon as he has completed his new comedy on which he has arranged to start work w ; thin the next two weeks. " A Woman of Paris" was the drama which Chaplin personally produced and directed in 1923 with Edna Purviance, leading lady of all his earlier comedies, as the heroine, and Adolphe Menjou. (previously an unknown extra player) as the villain.
Buddy De Sylva, pro<lucing for Fox pictures, considers that the ideal choice for the role of Alice in " Alice in Wonderland " is Lilian Harvey. His argument is that she is of English birth, is an excellent actress, has a child-like face, yet one which sparkles with animation, and has an elf-like figure and natural grace. All these qualifications, he believes, Alice should possess.
Toys to the value of £20.000 were used recently to furnish a set at the British and Dominion's studios at Borehamwood. The set represents a toy showroom, and was required for scenes in the new Jack Buchanan picture. Yes, Mr. Brown ' : in which the star appears as the branch manacer of a toy manufacturing company. The large London store supplying the toys, delivered not only a complete range of modern toys, but also some of their newest novelties, such as an electric speedway, a mechanical singing bird, a musical chair, which, when sat on, plays a tune; a box of bandsmen which plays. God Save the King," a large model of Miss England III; a miniature switchback railway, and two life-sized black golliwogs.
Grant Lyndsay. the 25-year-old Australian, who attained considerable success with J. C'. Williamson Ltd.. was selected for the much coveted role of Wayne Ridgeway in Cinesound's much praised " The Squatter's Daughter,"
only after exhaustive photographic and voice tests. Mr. Lyndsay appeared in all the capital cities with Moseovitc-h, for two and a half years, then with Leon Gordon. Frank Harvey, and, some years ago, with Muriel Starr. New Zealanders will remember him recently as Captain Curtees-Brooke in " The Barretts of Wimpole Street."
