RESTFUL BEDROOM SCHEME
No room in the house, except possibly the drawing-room, which has in so many cases been transformed into a pleasant lounge, has undergone such changes in decoration and furnishing as the bed-room, which is becoming more find more a personal room where one spn read, write, and rest as well as sleep. , Dame Sybil Thorndike s bed-room as shown recently in a. new play in a London theatre is a particularly charming example of the room that is modern in its scheme without being modernistic. Dressing-table, chairs, and bed are in deep ivory yellow lacquer, which tones with the painted walls, .and the upholstery, which also covers the bed ends, is printed in peach and pinkish shades on the same yellowish ground. Curtains in soft pink-shaded silk drape the high windows, and a cay flower picture hangs over the mantelpiece. There is a low table useful for early morning breakfast or tea by the fireside, and a very effective idea is the introduction of sunken bookshelves at one side of the mantelpiece to balance the door at the other.
