WAY TO SECURE HELP
TELEPHONE POST CUT DOWN Two missing American balloonists, Ward van Orman and Frank A. Trotter, were discovered utterly exhausted in a rough wooded district some five miles from Sudbury, Ontario. They had been missing since their balloon came down in a thunderstorm during the Gordrtn Bennett cup race a week previously. Hungry, and with their clothes in tatters as a result of a week's tramp through the bush, the two men were completely worn out. They owe their rescue to their own resourcefulness. They hit on the ingenious idea of calling attention to their plight by cutting down a telephone post and so interrupting the telephone service. When a patrolman was sent to locate the cause of the trouble he found the cut pole bearing a note describing their plight and giving their location. The patrolman at once reported his discovery, and this led to the sending of a rescue party, which brought the two men in.
