GILBERTIAN QUARREL
RIVAL ANTI-EVICTIONISTS EVICTION FOLLOWS A DISPUTE The paradox of two nnti-eriction organisations directing their efforts ft evicting each other at Glebt, New South Wales, recently. The organisations at loggerheads are the Glebe United Unemployed Committee and the Glebe Unemployed and Employed Workers' Association, which were formed some time ago. chiefly to prevent the eviction of members from dwellings. For some time tension has existed between the executive of the association and a member of the committee, and, according to an official report circulated at the Trades Hall, the dispute reached its climax when two members of the unemployed committee were allegedly ejected from their rooms, which are situated in the same premises as the ofiices of the opposition faction. In a disturbance one man, it was stated, had a billy of tea thrown over him. He retaliated by throwing a jar; then two men came to grips and together rolled to the bottom of some stairs. Ultimately the evicted men found all their possessions in the street. These were restored to the rooms bj members of the committee, but the next day were again thrown out, and the men were also forcibly ejected. When the unemployed committee again rallied its forces, in preparation for a massed attempt to restore the "rights" of its two members, it was met by police who visited the rooms. Some warm words passed between the rival members, but there was no disorder. The latest report states: —"For the time being the unemployed committee has suspended its eviction plan, and the members of the association reigs supreme."
