OBITUARY

MR. H. P. WALTON | [by telegraph—own correspondent] j DARGAVILLE, Thursday ! The death occurred this moraine of j Mr. Henrj Polden Walton, a pioijeer. of Tokatoka settlement. Mr. Walton, who was 72 years of age. came to New Zealand 46 years ago. He was one of the first settlers of what was known as Tokatoka Swamp and he had the j first contract in connection with the j draining of the area, which was boueht I by the Government, and cut up and ; settled. Mr. Walton farmed the hold- ■ ing until a few months auo, when he 1 retired owing to ill-health. He was one 1 of the original suppliers of the Northern ! Wairoa Co-operative Dairy Company I and was one of those instrumental in ! the formation of the company. Ho was chairman and a member of "the Toka- I toka School Committee for many rears. ! a member of the Domain Board, the 1 Rural Credits Board, the Northern ° Wairoa Jersey Cattle Club and numer- : ous other institutions. Mr. Walton ; was a breeder of pedicree Jersey cattle I and his farm was one of the show places of the district. He is survived by one son, Mr. Thomas Walton, of ! lok a toka, and three daughters. Mes- ! dames E. Ireson (Dunedin), L. Ring- * rose (Tokatoka), and N. Peart (Kaihu). i His wife predeceased him about three I years ago. i MRS. HANNAH COSSILL [by telegraph OWN correspondent] WHANG AREI. Thursday j The death occurred in Whangarej ' early this morning of Mrs. Hannah Cos*- - sill, aged 7U years. Mrs. Cossill. who I was born in Whanuarei, was the second I daughter of the late Mr. James North, one of the earliest settlers in Whangarei. In 1579 she married Mr. Edward Courtenay and there are five sons and two daughters of that marriage. Her second marriage was to Mr. WiJ- j liam Cossill and four sons and two daughters survive her. There are 39 grandchildren and two grcat-grandchil- ' dren.
