TROUBLE AT ROTORUA SENTENCE ON MAORI [bt telegraph OWN correspondent] ROTORUA, Thursday The theft of a bicycle, valued at £3, uas the charge made against Dicky Hoko, a Maori, in the Police Court today. Senior-Sergeant Carroll said that the bicycle belonged to a schoolboy and had been left outside a building. Accused admitted having altered the appearance of the bicycle by changing the wheels and other parts. There had been a lot of bicycle stealing. Maoris had taken machines and after finishing their journeys had thrown them into hot pools. Accused was on probation, said Mr. Carroll, and had reported regularly, but while reporting, he had committed the theft. The magistrate, Mr. S. L. Paterson, sentenced accused to three years' reformative detention.
