TROUT FISHING SEASON
CONDITIONS AT TAUPO ANOTHER FAVOURABLE DAY [B V TEEECRAITI OWN CORRESPONDENT] TAUPO, Thursday Fine weather continues to be experienced in the Taupo district and numerous visiting anglers were up before dawn to-day making the most of the favourable conditions. The good results of yesterday have been maintained and several good catches are reported. A party of three rods from Hawke's Bay, fly fishing from the launch Lapwing in Whakaipo Bay, obtained 18 fish of good condition for this time of the season. In Kaiapo Bay a Napier angler landed 10 fish, while i another Napier visitor caught 15 fish | just off the foreshore of the lake in i close vicinitv to the township. Thursday The fishing season opened well in the j "Whakatane district yesterday, good ) catches being reported by many sportsj ii.en. One party of three took 35 fish j from the Tarawera River, all the fish l being in fine condition and averaging | 2-;lb. Good sport was obtained on the I fly-fishing stretch of the "NYaimana j River. j An easterly wind at the lakes made conditions somewhat unfavourable and j the fish were not as well conditioned as those taken from the river. ANGLING ON TONGARIRO FISH REPORTED PLENTIFUL [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] TOKAANT7, Thursday Good sport was experienced by a large number of finglers on the Tongariro River yesterday. The best bag was secured by Mr. John Selby at the Delta camp on the fly, all before breakfast. The limit of 15 fish was secured, the largest turning the scale at ] 1 b., and the average was 6 l ilb. Other anglers report good catches and the general opinion is that the sport is better this year than at the opening last year. The mild winter has caused the fish to return to the lake some six weeks sooner than usual, and ! in consequence some exceptionally fine I fresh-run fish have been landed in the j Tongariro River. An abundance of feed ! is apparent almost everywhere, particu- j laily around Stump Bay and other small j hays about Tongariro River mouth. The ! fish are generally in good condition. Many visitors are expected over the j week-end, while the overseas bookings are the best for somo years.
