SITE FOR POST OFFICE
PETITIONS AT WAITAKARURU DEPARTMENT'S DECISION [by tklf.grarn—own correspondent] THAMES, Thursday Replies received to petitions from settlers against the erection of the new Waitakaruru Post Office on the Miranda Road site, opposite the saleyards, indicate that tho Post and Telegraph Department has finally decided on this site, which it recently purchased, and which is being prepared by tho Public Works Department. The present post office at Waitakaruru is on leased land, but the department has for many years had a site near the church. When the question of building arose this site was condemned on the score that it was liable to flooding. Pointing out that tho State owned 15 acres of land 011 the other side of the road, about 100 Pipiroa and Canal Road settlers petitioned the department to have the new office erected anywhere on the main highway and not on a sido road. A counterpetition signed by over 100 Miranda, Boom Road and Mangatarata settlers asked that the new post office be located near the present site. A sum of £ISOO has been voted by Parliament for the building, for which tenders were recent I\' called.
