RAILWAY REVENUE
INCREASE FOR SIX MONTHS NET GAIN OF £65,667 [by telegraph—press association] WELLINGTON. Thursday A net increase of £17,199 in the revenue for the four-weekly period ended October 14 is shown in the monthly figures of railway revenue, which were made available by the chairman of the Government Railway Board, Mr. H. H. Sterling, to-day. The gross revenue showed an increase of £17,346, compared with the corresponding period of the previous year, and the expenditure showed an increase of £147, leaving an increase in net revenue for the four weeks of £17,199. For the portion of the financial year from April 1 to October 14, the gross revenue was increased by £17,947, at compared with the corresponding portion of tho previous year, and expenditure was reduced by £47,720, giving an increase in net revenue of £65,067. From the figures given by Mr. Sterling, it is evident that the c;ross revenue for the four-weekly period ended Octrv her 14 was £418,180, compared witl £100,834 for the corresponding perioc last year. The expenditure wa: £390,305, compared with £390.218. Th< net revenue amounted to £27,815, com pared with £10,016, there being a gaii of £17,199. For the period from Apri 1 to October 14, the net revenue wa: £300,605, compared with £240,938 las year, an increase of £65,667. The gros revenue was £3,019,579, and expense were £2,742,974.
