AUSTRALIAN DRIVER FAST TIMES AT BROOKLANDS LONDON, Oct. 31 In spite of a high, treacherous wind an Australian, John Cobb, driving a monster Napier-Railton car at Brooklands, lowered the world's records for the standing start kilometre, with 88.14 miles an hour, and the standing start mile with 102.52 miles an hour. At the end of the mile Cobb was travelling at a speed of nearly 150 miles an hour, which is dangerously close to the«Brooklands track safety limit. His last gear change was made at. 100 miles an hour.
