SUPERB DRIVING
thrills at brooklands SIR M. CAMPBELL'S ESCAPE LONDON. Oct, 02 Great presence of mind and superb driving skill by Sir Malcolm Campbell twice averted a tragedy on Brooklands racing track to-day. He was defending his Mountain Handicap title. Ten powerful cars were competing with Sir Malcolm's, and all were travelling at more than 100 miles an hour, when one of the cars skidded and hurtled acnoss the track in front of Sir Malcolm's. By a remarkable effort Sir Malcolm forced his car up the back of the track, and the crowd, which had been expecting disaster, breathed again. Then another car skidded, turned completely over, and collided with a Bugatti. Sir Malcolm missed the locked cars by inches. D. L. Duller, brother of the steeplechase jockcv, was travelling at 00 miles an hour, when his machine ran oft' the track and crashed into, a telegraph pole. The car was smashed, but Duller escaped serious injury.
