NORTH SHORE WATER SUPPLY
"Sir,—Your' correspondent -AF.J-." complains that the , use of Pupuke water- "is doing incalculable injury tp the North Shore boroughs." It is not doing so much injury as "F.J." does by making exaggerated statements. I have lived in Milford for three years and, although the water is often discoloured at first, it runs clear after a few minutes. Some months ago there was a slightly disagreeable smell, but this has disappeared. I do not say that the water is good, but "F.J.'s" description is a gross exaggeration.- Another unjustifiable statement is that the Devonport water-purification scheme is "almost universally condemned." Sensible people do not condemn a scheme until it has been in working order for a reasonable time and has heen found wanting. The wisest thing. to do is to make the best of the present supply for a year or two jjjntil, as Mr, Guiniyen suggests, good water can be supplied to the North Shore boroughs from the city by means of pipes laid on the proposed harbour bridge.
