BRIGHTER OUTLOOK
INDUSTRIES IN BRITAIN BIGGER RAILWAY TRAFFIC British Wireless x RUGBY, Aug. 24 The recent steady rise in home rail stocks reflects the satisfactory traffic figures which the companies have been showing. Although the more vigorous policy by the companies, perhaps, is mainly responsible for the passenger increase, more general interest attaches to the steady improvement in tho amount of merchandise carried by the railways in spite of tho severe competition of road transport. This section of the traffic figures is regarded as a rcliablo trade barometer, since the increased transport of raw materials shows that manufacturers, particularly in the heavy industries, are increasingly active. The figures provide corroborative evidence of the improving conditions reported from many other sources.
