Mrs. W. A. George, of Christchurch, is the guest of Mrs. D. M. Rodgers, of Epsom Avenue.

Mrs. W. Dawn, and her children, are spending tho holidays at Polkinghorn's Beach, Wliangaparaoa.

Mrs. J. Blair, of Gisborne, has taken Mrs. R. G. Bennett's house in Takutai Street, Parnell, for a month.

Mrs. Berridgo Spencer, of Stanley Point, and Mrs. W. J. Brooking, left yesterday by car for Rotorua.

Mrs. F. H. Frater, City Road, will leave on Tuesday morning for a week's holiday at the Chateau, National Park.

Miss A. D. Sexton, who has been on a "visit to Mrs. A. E. Greenslade at Northcote, has returned to her homu at Taihape.

Miss Jean Maxwell, of Mt. Albert, is on a. tour of the North, and is at present the guest of Mrs. Gladys Samson, of Northlands.

Staying at Hotel Ventnor, Devonport, are Mrs. Steedman, Thames, Mrs. S. Burges, Thames, Mrs. D. Oldershaw and Miss Oldershaw, Singapore. Mrs. F. Ford, Auckland.

At the Grand Hotel are:—Mrs. W. Ferguson, of Sydney; Mrs. Joseph S. Wright and Mrs. Lange Rathbun, Chicago; Mrs. F. H. Green and Miss Charlotte Ebbets, Santa Barbara; and Miss Muriel Spellisey, Los Angeles.

" Women and Journalism" was the Subject of a talk given by Mrs. Hedda Dyson to members of the Women's Procress Club at. the Higher Thought Temple. Music was- rendered by the Temple Trio and a vocal solo by Mrs. V. Moller, vice-president, was enjoyed. Afternoon tea. was served at the close of the meeting.

The Richmond Rovers Football Club held another of their successful 500 card tournaments at the Grey Lynn Bowling Club's pavilion. Prizes were won by Mrs. Bryant and Miss Howell. Mr. C. Walker and Mr. P. Brady. The combined prize was won by Miss Howell and the hidden numbers by Mrs. McMillan and Mr. Hanlon.

The annual ladies' evening of the Mason Lodge of Harmony was held in the Public Hall, Otahuhu, this week, when a large company enjoyed a programme of dancing and music. Messrs. A. T. McLaren, R. L. Brown and N. St. George were in charge of the programme. During the evening songs were given by Messrs. Farrow and H. Hunter and Mr. and Mrs. Pearson. The accompaniments were played by Mr. W. Beck.

An informal visit arranged by Sister S. E. Gubb, was paid to Court "Star of the South," the Otahuhu section of the Ancient Order of Foresters, at the Kingsford Hall, by some of the. members of Court " Maid Marian," " Nil Desperandum," " Balmoral," and "City of Auckland," on Thursday evening. On arrival the visitors were received into the meeting, and cordially welcomed by the Chief Ranger, Brother H. Willcocks. Dancing, games and card-playing were thoroughly enjoyed. Sister Riile and Brothers E. Watts and L. White supplied the music.

Ah entertainment was given by Mr. ■A. Hamblin on Thursday evening at tho Dock Street Mission, St. Matthew's Hall. The programme consisted of choruses, songs, pianoforte solos, dancing, humorous items, etc. Those taking part were:—Madame Anetta Stock, Misses Gladys Barton, Grace Wray, Mavis "Ward, Marjorie Pearson, Lilian Hitchen, Edna Tyson, Bernice Allen, Marion Royston, Joyce Montgomery, Mary Hitchen, Audrey Rawlings, Ailsa Smith, Joan Cooney, Masters Eric Godley, Alan Lock, Cyril Batten. Madame Stock was the accompanist.

A card evening in aid of the Otahuhu Croauet Club was held at the residence of Mrs. J. Mclvor, who acted as hostess and entertained the guests. Bridge and 500 were played, the respective winners being - Miss McLoghry and Mr. N. Doherty and Miss E. Arnold. The prizes were presented by the club president, Mrs. W. Morton. After supper had been served, Mr. W. Morton returned thanks bo Mrs. Mclvor for her activity on behalf of the club. Among those present jpere:—Mrs. H. T. Clements (Mayoress), Mrs. E. Elliott, Mrs. E. The Ponsonby Croquet Club held one sf a series of bridge and 500 afternoons in the Ponsonby Bowling Club zard ,room on Thursday. The winners jf the prizes were:—Bridge," Mesdames Dunn (first), Miss Barber (second); 500, Mrs. J. Healey. The hostesses wero Mrs. Lucena, Mrs. Hannan, Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Foster. Among those present were:—Mesdames Oswald, Finch, Powley, Hodson, L. Lucena, A.- Williams, Torrance, Worsfold, Lessing, C. D. Bell, Brinsden, Cox, W. Hardley, Hopwood, Beives, L. Neard, Whitten, Vause, Gall, Noton, E. Thompson, Dixon, C. J. Paine, Frieberg,, Aitchison, Bell, H. Morton, M. Scouller, Kirk, Green, Gallaher, Kiddy, J. Veale, Hodge, E. Smith, White, Evans, Hilton, Thomas, Sneddon, Phillips, Walrond, C. Veale, Misses Brown, Dagnan von Zglinick, Burton, L. C. Thomas and Morey.

A home meeting in connection with fcho Onehunga Women's Christian Temperance Union was held at the residence of Mrs. Petchell. A programme of solos was given by Mesdames Jackson, Compton, Taylor, Hollings, Miss J. Craig and Misses Smith and Whitelaw. The accompanist was Mrs. Hulett, A recitation was given by Mrs. Hodder. Miss McLay spoke on "Some Aspects of Women's Work" and pointed to tho fact ,that it was nearly 40 years since the franchise was granted to New Zealand women. In spite of that, no women had yet been elected to Parliament, though it was admitted that thoir viewpoint would be beneficial to the country. Mention was made of the good work being done among the native race in New Zealand. Three new members were received and one transferred to the union. Tea was followed by votes of thanks.
