THE CITY MARKETS FRUIT SELLS WELL APPLES AND PEARS SOUGHT There was a better demand for apples and pears at the City Markets yesterday, and the higher prices established earlier in the week were maintained. Oranges brought unchanged prices, included in the offering being some local navels. Higher values were obtained for Zew Zealand grapefruit. Fresh supplies of Island tomatoes were available, prices being steady. 'High prices were paid for some lines of hothouse tomatoes. Heavy supplies of cauliflowers appeared, and prices dropped by about Is a sack and on benches. Cabbages, which were in average supply, met with a keen demand. Kumaras and onions were offered freely, many being of poor quality. There were good supplies of pumpkins, for which -there was a fair demand. Celery and lettuce were in heavy supply, but sold fairly well. New potatoes were not keenly sought, there being ample supplies to meet the demand. Poultry and eggs sold at steady values.
