BROADCAST OF RECORDS

ban still effective

PLIGHT OF B STATIONS

[by telegraph—OWN- correspondent] WELLINGTON, Friday

Further negotiations by proprietors of New Zealand B (.lass radio stations to secure some modification of the rein on the broadcasting of the five principal makes of gramophone records have been unsuccessful. It was stated to-day by Mr. R. H. Nimmo, presiA dent of the Federation of B Stations,j that proposals submitted by the proprietors to the manufacturers had not been accepted. This means that the ban imposed in March this year on the broadcast by B stations of records of the five banned makes issued, after October, 1931, will remain in force in the meantime. A further attempt will be made to remedy the position. Australian B stations are permitted to use the records through a financial arrangement and by devoting half an hour a week to the specific advertising of records.

"The gramophone companies' requirements are out of question in NewZealand under the present regulations," said Mr. Nimmo. It had therefore been necessary to import American records. Proprietors looked to the Government to rectify matters so as to place New Zealand B stations on the same footing as those in Australia.
