RESERVE AT ROTORUA
QUESTION OF OWNERSHIP BOROUGH COUNCIL INQUIRY [by telegraph—own cobbespoxpknt] ROTORUA, Thursday The question of the ownership of the Pukeroa Kescrve, 011 which stands tho King George V. Hospital, was raised by Mr. F. Goodson at a meeting of the Rotorua Borough Council last evening. He said the council should not let the reserve pass out of its hands to Government control, and he suggested that the matter should be thoroughly investigated. Mr. J. Banks, the council's representative on the Waikato Hospital Board, said there was no doubt that the reserve belonged to the Government, which had offered to give the Waikato Hospital Board a 21 years' lease. The Mayor, Mr. T. Jackson, said it was open to doubt whether the reserve belonged to the Government. The council might have to challenge the validity of the lease offered to the Hospital Board. Mr. W. A. McLean, town clerk, said that the council had been informed by the Crown solicitor that the reserve did not belong to the Crown. It was decided to refer the matter to the Legal and Finance Committee for consideration and report.
