LARGE EEL LANDED
MONSTER CAUGHT IN NET Four feet six inches long, 19iin. in girth, and 251b. in weight, and bearing the scars of former encounters, all his size and experience did not prevent a monster eel from being ignominiously scooped out of To Henui Stream in a whitebait net, says a .Now Plymouth newspaper. Mr. A. Hunt was fishing for whitebait noar the footbridge which crosses tho stream, and as tho whitebait, were not much in evidence ho had almost lost interest in proceedings when he saw what appeared from the distance to be a submerged branch floating downstream under water. As it come closer ho saw that it was a monster eel. He turned tho net to face the eel, and it swam lazily into the A mighty heave and it was landed on the bank, to oxpiate the trout-eating sins of its species. Once landed the eel made several attempts to reach the water, and after it had been headed off a number of times was finally imprisonod under the net again. Among the crowd was a Maori. His wonderment was given vent in a tangible form, for after handing over half a crown ho bore tho captive oil: in triumph to grace the family table.
