DAVIS CUP DOUBLES
OMISSION OF J. CRAWFORD "Jack Crawford has done no more than 1 exported of liira, and I see no reason why lie should not add tlio United States national championship to his list of victories," said Mr. Norman Brookes, former international tennis player, on his return to Sydney from a business visit to Honolulu. "I cannot see who can beat him, with the possible exception of Vines, who lost to him in the All-England championship. "How anyone could havo left Crawford out of tho Davis Cup doubles match against Great Britain is a mystery to me," continued Mr. Brookes. "It was a fatal mistake, and probably lost us the cup. Crawford is not only world's champion, but a fine doubles player. Wo must not forgot, however, that the English team was more even than ours, and thoroughly deserved its victory. Our juniors gained valuable experience, but 1 cannot help feeling a little disappointed at Vivian McGrath's showing against tho Englishmen." Mr. Brookes said he thought Australia should challenge next year in the new eastern zone. This would enable tho team to pay Japan the return visit owed that nation. Australia would still have to meet the United States before reaching the position of being able to challenge the holders, Great Britain.
