NEW BANK BUILDING
PURCHASE OF PROPERTY HAMILTON TRANSACTION [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON. Monday A vacant section with a 49ft. front* ago on the east side of Victoria Street, Hamilton, and with a depth of 141 ft., was sold by the Public Trustee to-day, on behalf of the estate of the late Mr. L. W. W. Brown, to the Commercial Bank of Australia, Limited. The price has not been disclosed. The site, which is in the heart of the business quarter of tho town, was previously occupied by a block of wooden shops. These were purchased bv Mr. Brown and removed. Plans were pro-, pared for a modern business block ltt, concrete, and the work was commenced. Great difficulty was experienced with the foundations owing to the type of soil met with. Mr. Brown died about four years ago, and when tho foundations were laid, tho work was stopped. The area has since been vacant. This section is the second Victoria Street business property that has changed hands in a fortnight. Tha Commercial Bank intends building on tho block at an early date.
