DISTRAINT ON FARMS
AUSTRALIAN OWNER NON-PAYMENT OF TITHES LONDON. Aug. 15 Distraint was made on farms at Stokeley Clare, Suffolk, owned by an Australian named Melbourne Jones, who has long been prominent for his opposition to tho payment of tithes. A sheriff's officer, accompanied by 20 men and seven policemen, called at tho first farm at 5.30 a.m., roused tho occupant, and seized tho premises as Jones' property. They padlocked tho barn and' drove in pegs bearing notices that tho premises had been seized in accordance with a High Court writ. The proceedings were repeated at other farms, which have a total area of 700 acres.'
