Th® weather will improve gradually in west, ern districts and in the far south, but otherwise will he cold and changeablewith further rain. Snow in parts of the South Island and on the, ranges generally. Some hail on the coast. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER 'J Auckland.—A moderate south-west-erly wind and squally wet weather pre. vailed yesterday, heavy showers being experienced during the early morning and in the afternoon. The conditions M continued threatening last night. Temperature in shade yesterday (to midnight)— Maximum. 61deg.; minimum, 4adeg. -Wellington. —The spell of fino weather was broken yesterday when rain fell for the greater part of the day and there was a keen south wind. Toward evening the rain ceased. Christehurch. —The weather yester, day was dull and fairly cold with a fresh south-west breeze in the morn, ing. The barometer rose to 29.90 in. Dunedin.—A light south-west wind and fine sunny weather prevailed yes- i terdav, but conditions were cold in the I shade. The barometer had risen to 29.90 in. last evening.
