BUILDING PROGRAMME BIG CONTRACTS LET (Received August 4. 6.15 p.m.) WASHINGTON. Aug. 3 The Navy Department to-day awarded contracts for the 21 warships to be built in private shipyards. Sixteen vessels are to bo constructed in the Navy yards. The face value of the contracts is approximately 130,000,000 dollars, not including armament and fittings.
