SENTENCE ON SEEDSMAN
THREE YEARS' IMPRISONMENT Evidence as to character was called by Mr. Singer in the Supreme Court yesterday, wihon Alfred Herbert Clist, agod 35, seedsman, appeared before Mr. Justice Smith for sentence 011 charges of indecently assaulting boys. The ltev. E. P, BlaniireSj and Colonel A. 13. Carmichael, of the Salvation Army, both said they had known prisoner intimately for some years and had always found him a man of integrity, honesty and great industry. Mrs. Emma Clist, mother of prisoner, said her son had always been honest and Industrious. .He had really overworked to support her husband and herself. She also gave evidence of a physical disability sufFored by prisoner, "The evidence showed that you have a depraved mind in certain matters," said His Honor, "although otherwise you have been a reputable citizen. However, it is in the public interest that these offences should be met with deterrent, sentences. On one count you will be sentenced to three years' imprisonment with hard labour and on the other you will bo convicted without sentence."
