PAYMENT OF RATES ■Reporting on the payment ot rates 8t the last meeting of the Howick Town Board, the clerk, Mr. J. A. Kyd, stated that a good response had been mado, increasing the bank credit to £387. It was expected that this would be considerably augmented during the remainder of the period of the 5 per cent remission on the general rate. A further sum of £lO waß received in connection with the art union allocation toward the central relief fund in the district, making £l9 in all. The members of the board, together with the clerk, undertook to administer the fund as a relief committee.
