MR. BITCHENER IN SOUTH REQUESTS IN MARLBOROUGH - • 3 [BY TELEGRArH —PRESS ASSOCIATION'] BLENHEIM. Friday The first Minister of the Crown to visit Marlborough since the Coalition Government took office, the- Hon. J, > - Bitchcner, Minister.of Public Works,*' was accorded a warm reception st every stop on the way up the coast today in heavy rain. Deputations at Kaikoura mainly requested assistance for local facilities. At Ward a deputation made out a case for the completion of formation work on the South. Main Trunk railway by unemployed labour, it being pointed out that huts and 4 other equipment for at least 1000 men were available on the job. Seddon asked for assistance in the provision of tho Awatere water scheme. The main requests at Blenheim were for the railway and a new building for Marlborough College, which was described as "a collection of shacks, misfits and temporary structures which were a disgrace to the New Zealand educational system." The Minister was sympathetic, but was distinctly diplomatic in regard io all requests. He leaves for Wellington to-morrow.
