FIRE BRIGADE EQUIPMENT EMERGENCY WATER SUPPLY The Otahuhu Borough Council at its meeting on Thursday evening received a i letter from tho Otahuhu volunteer fire brigade, offering to relieve the borough of expense in replacing certain equipment. The secretary of the brigade stated that the brigade had certain funds in hand and was prepared to purchase * from these a number of new helmets required by members. Formal approval of the proposal was requested. In moving acceptance of the offer, the Mayor, Mr. H. T. Clements, said he fully appreciated the fine spirit of cooperation shown by tho volunteer brigade. The brigade's action would relieve the borough of an expense amounting to £25. A request was mitdo by the management -of the Passenger Transport Company for a conference with the council to discuss a scheme for the improvement of transport in the borough. It was agreed that the Transport Committee should meet representatives of the company. Advice was received from the Auckland Hospital Board that it would grant the council's request to defer for three years capital payments in respect of the municipal quarry. The request was made to the board following the council's decision to suspend operations at its quarry and to lease working rights to private enterprise. It was decided to refer to the Legal and Finance Committee a letter from the Great South Road Beautifying Council requesting the council's views on a suggestion to ask legislative authority to form a now stock route between Otahuhu and Papakura. The Mount Wellington Road Board advised that it would agree to the Otahuhu Borough Council using its water supply as a standby for emergencies on the understanding that water used would bo paid for at 2s per 1000 gallons. An account for £26 4s for supplies already received was passed for payment.
