LONDON DOCKS

IMPROVING APPROACHES BIG SCHEME OF WORKS (Received August 3, 6.55 p.m.) British "Wireless RUGBY, Aug. 2 An important scheme estimated to cost £188,960 for the improvement of the approaches to the London docks has been approved by the London County Council. It is to be put in hand shortly. The existing bridges are inadequate to stand the strain of the enormous daily volume of traffic passing over them and it is proposed to reconstruct those at Stepney, Bennondsey and Poplar. The carriage-ways are to be widened from Bft. to 2oft. and the road approaches improved. The Port of London Authority and the Ministry of Transport will cooperate in the work.
