EXTRACTS FROM THE HERALD The following extracts from the New Zealand Hekald of August 4, 1883: The deaths registered in the Auck- , lend district for the month oi July were 54, of which 25 were in the borough. The births in the same ]>erioa were 198, of which 112 were in the > borough. The marriage licences :issued were 55, of which 1/ were solemnisedin the registrar's office. There was a good house at the Opera House last night at the production of Rossini's opera, "The Barber of Seville." The performance seems to go better every night, as the applause last ■ evening testified. It is one of the best amateur operatic performances yet seem in Auckland. A cablegram states that Mr. Gladstone has been questioned with regard the probable duration of the British ifpcupation of Egypt, and also as to whetherip Parliament will be consulted before thetroops are withdrawn from that country, but he declines to give any information on the subject. Thirteen more deaths from cholera have occurred ' among the British troops in Kgrpt. If the attendance at the football;, match on Saturday afternoon lasst was any criterion, the followers of are not growing any less, as there; must have been not less than from 000 to 700 people on the lawn. Of course, the attraction was to witness a game of;/ 15 to 21, in which our probable representatives who are going forth to do* battle with the Southerners were en ' gaged.
