INVITATION TO DINNER
UNAPPRECIATED HONOUR. LONDON LIVERY COMPANIES [from OtTR OWN correspondent] LONDON, June 23 A natural mistake occurred regarding the invitations issued by the City Livery Companies to the delegates to the World Economic Conference. The 11 companies, generously responding to the Government's wish that suitable hospitality should be extended to the delegates, combined to honour the conference with an invitation to the delegates to dine in their magnificent halls. To dine in the City is a privilege greatly coveted by those who know. More than 300 invitations were issued to' the delegates and their advisers, but it is reported, fewer than half that, number accepted, and in many cases the delegates did not even reply. Apparently, many of the delegates, or their secretaries, did not appreciate the honoured position the Livery Companies hold in London life and the historic traditions for which they are famed. Perhaps when they received cards from fishmongers, drapers, grocers and leather-sellers they thought they were merely cards from some enterprising commercial organisations inviting them to dine to make a good advertisement I
