WOMEN AND VOTE
"It is a bad thing to have no vote, but it a worse thing to have a vote and not use it," said M/s. E. Kelso, organising secretary, at the conference of women's institutes „ in Christchurch last week, when the desirability of lectures being given to institutes on questions of government was # being discussed. "Wo would be congenital idiots if we did not take an interest and a share in the government of the country," Mrs. Kelso added. Other members endorsed this view with the leservation that the institutes should take core to preserve their non-politi-cal identity. The conference sanctioned the giving of such lectures and this decision was warmly approved by the chairman, Miss Amy/ Kane, who said she had been 'a candidate at Wellington local body elections. "And the ignorance of men and women coiicerifing who may and may not vote is colossal, especially the women," she added.
