July 2G The King to-day opened the world's largest graving dock r;t Southampton. The Queen and the Duko and Duchess of York accompanied His Majesty in the Royal yacht Victoria and Albert. Tho bows of the yacht broke a red, white and blue ribbon across the entrance as she entered the flower-strewn waters of the dock to the accompaniment of cheers from tho crowd of onlookers! and tho music of massed bands. Overhead aeroplanes circled. In declaring the dock open the King expressed special satisfaction in inaugurating so splendid an addition to the dock system of the pert. It was as true to-day as ever, ho said, that tho welfare of Britain was largely bound up with tho prosperity of her sea-borne traffic. "Realising as I do the vital need for efficiency in our ports, as in all other requirements of our merchant navy," said His Majesty, "1 look upon tho opening of this, the largest graving dock in the world, as a good augury for tho future of Southampton." The Queen christened the dock by pouring into tho water somo Empiro wine from a silver cup.
