GOLD PROSPECTING SUPPORT BY COUNTIES [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON. Thursday The New Zealand Counties' Association at the annual conference decided to extend support to all counties who wore fostering gold prospecting schemes. Mr. J. Ititchio, chairman of the Vincent County Council, stated that his council had started with 30 men, married men being paid 30s a week and single men los. Now there woro 800 unemployed prospecting in the county. Each gang was placed under the supervision of an experienced man. Several lucky strikes had been made. When a miner was getting £3 a week he was struck off the unemployed list. They had made an honest attempt to settle men and many of the men declared they would never go back to the cities.

RELIEF IN TAURANGA GRANT BY BOROUGH COUNCIL [from our own correspondent] TAURANGA, Thursday Tho Tauranga Borough Council at its meeting last evening decided to vote to tho Relief Committee tho sum of £25 from the Stewart Trust fund. Another contribution of a similar amount was made from the fund last April. Tho Mayor, Mr. A. F. Tunks, has received a cheque for £2B as a second contribution from tho "Luck At Last" art union toward the Mayor's Relief Fund. Tho first cheque was for £27, and the total received to date from the art union is £55. NORTHCOTE WORKERS • REORGANISED ASSOCIATION Northcoto relief workers, at a meeting on Wednesday, revived tho organisation to deal with all matter* affecting tho men. Mr. A. E. Hicks presided. Tho position in regard to "walking time" is to bo brought before the Borough Council. It was pointed out that some of the men were walking over 10 miles daily, wheeling a barrow, besides 2i miles to and from work. An offer from the local theatre management for a picturo benefit to augment the funds was accepted. Mr. A. E. Hicks was elected president and Mr. J. Olds secretary.
