VIOLINIST'S ESTATE
MR. DE GROOT'S £34,000 WELL-KNOWN PERFORMER (Received July 24. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, July 23 'The late Mr. David do Groot, violinist, left an estate valued at £34,067. Mr. David de Groot was a wellknown violinist. He died at his home in London on May 23 at the age of 52. He was a naturalised British subject of over 20 years' standing. He made his first appearance in London 25 years ago at the Piccadilly Hotel, and his was the first orchestra to broadcast from a hotel. The delicacy and purity of his playing of the betterknown classical compositions brought him a wide and appreciative public. Often ho went withoutjhis meals to play and conduct, and it was a great disappointment to him not to be able to play on the 21st anniversary of the hotel which first employed him. , In 1928 Mr. de Groot found the strain of broadcasting, in conjunction with his other engagements, too great, and he gave it up to go on tour. He appeared in All-British programmes in New York, and in 1929 went to South Africa. Oil numerous occasion he played before Royalty, notably at command variety performances. He left a widow and two daughters.
