TYPES OF TROUGHS
EXPERT'S RECOMMENDATIONS " Quite a number of inquiries have reached 1110 lately 011 the question of pig troughs: what sort do I recommend?" writes Mr Theo. A. Stephens in tho Farmer and Stockbreeder. " 1 have in use, or liavp tried, almost every conceivable kind of trough. No single type suits every purpose; in sonic places .1 have permanent concrete troughs which answer well for certain requirements, but for most purposes I prefer a more portable form. On the whole, ft round trough is handier than a long one. It gives mora feeding space and is less likely to be upset. " Of round troughs I have two kinds one is of cast iron and the other is made of tho tops and bottoms of casks—generally paraffin casks. I buy these and then thoroughly burn them out by filling them with straw and Setting alight. After the wood has been thoroughly well burned no trace of oil is left, and they will last for many years. Some such casks have been in daily use for over 10 years. These aro easily washed out—mine aro regularly scalded and then loft in the sun."
