PROPERTY VALUATIONS

OFFERS TO GOVERNMENT NEW LYNN SUGGESTION A special meeting of the New Lynn Borough Council was held recently in connection with the recent sittings of the Assessment Court relative to valuation under the provisions of section 45 of the Valuation of Land Act. It was decided to make representations through the member for the electorate, Mr. H. G. R. Mason, to secure some measure of protection to relieve the unjust position that this particular section of the Act was said to bo causing to ratepayers through the inequalities it. allowed to be established. Sir. Mason expressed his opinion that the suggestion was a good one and would have his wholehearted support. The council's resolution is as follows:—That the Government, be asked to bring down legislation giving the Valuer-General power to take threo mouths' option over property offered to the Crown under section 15 of the Valuation of Land Act, 1925; that all particulars be supplied to boroughs, road boards and county councils, where properties are so affected, and that they in turn have the right to oifer such properties to any person or persons at the same prices.
