RICCARTON WEIGHTS

NEXT MONTH'S MEETING, GRAND NATIONAL EVENTS THE WINTER CUP CONTEST [bv TELEGRAPH —rUESS association] CHRISTCHURCII, Monday Handicaps for 'he New Zealand Grand National Steeplechase and the Winter Cup. to be run on the first day of tho Canterbury Jockey Club's meeting at Riccarton on August S, 10 and 12. and the New Zealand Grand National Hurdle Rare, to be run on tho second day, were announced to-day. Details nre as follows:

ELLERSLIE NOTES MR. E. H. CUCKSEY'S HORSES CONDITION OF CATOMA BY ARCHER It -was an off morning at Ellerslie yesterday and all the horses were restricted to pace work. So far the only visitor to make an appearance for the Auckland Racing Club's, special meeting on Saturday is Snow Prince, who looks in great heart to race. J. Hoey has not yet made any definite decision regarding which of his three engagements Snow Prince wiV. keep, but he stated yesterday that he would run him in the races which looked like being the easiest to win. \V. Gall hns come in from Papatoetoe with Hushing and Gay Cockade to complete their preparations for Saturday's racing at headquarters. He also has with him the three-year-old gelding Irish Song, by Kilbroney from Cradle Song. Irish Song is a good stamp of horse and looks one of the most likely propositions that Mr. F. Stonex has had for some time. Hushing is in good condition and Gay Cockade, who has been in Gall's charge since the winter meeting, is al3o bright and healthy. Mr. E. H. Cucksey's horses. Lady Diana and Barograph, have resumed work on the tracks under tho direction of their owner and both are in healthy condition to go ahead with a preparation. Lady Diana is a rising three-year-old filly by Hunting Song from the Absurd maro Lady Cintra, who won somo minor races for Mr. Cucksey. Barograph is a rising four-year-old by Weathervane from Expense. He showed speed when tried early, and. as he has grown a good deal since he was last in work, may show improvement when he again reaches racing condition. Only the lightest of tasks has been allotted to Manawhenua since he returned from Trentham on Saturday mornii!?, but ho appears to have suffered no ill-effects from liis racing and travelling and should be ready for another good effort on Saturday. Manawhenua is in his clement when the going is heavy, and; although he hns to , carry 9.13, should not bft without prospects in the July Handicap. \V. Kemp's two jumpers, I'atutahi and "Wee Pat, have- been getting through some solid work lately and both should be ready to run solid races on Saturday. Whenever they work together on the flat .Wee Pat always holds the upper hand. and. althouch she has made mistakes in her races over hurdles, she may be one of the possibilities in the Waiatarua Hurdles. Patutahi is getting old and 13 not as good as formerly, but is a reliable fencer and may still have prospects in weak company. Few horses at headquarters have been doing better lately than Catoma and the Waiatarua Hurdles should provide him with a good opportunjlyj to improve upon the second he ran to Solanio last month. C'atoma has been jumping with more confidence than formerly and also has been working really well on the flat. His condition is excellent and there should be no excuses for him if he fails to run prominently.

K. VOITRE'S MOUNTS KING MARCH AND CALIENTE New Zealand's leading horseman K. Voitre, who brought his tally of wins for tho current season to 122, six more than H. Gray's record, when he won on Manawhenua at Trenlhnm on Thursday, will be riding at the Auckland Racing Club's meeting at Ellerslie on Saturday. His mounts will include King March and C'aliente. Other riding engagements announced for Saturday are:—A. G. Murray, Hushing and Glenrata, and G. Jenkins, Landlubber.

FRANKLIN CLUB'S YEAR PROFIT OF NEARLY £IOOO [FROM OCR OWN CORHEoI'ONHENT'I PUKEKOIIE. Monday A profit of £997 is shown by the balancesheet to be presented at the annual meeting of the Franklin Racing Club, which is to be held at Pukekohe on August 7. The following have been re-elected to the committee for a further two years:—Messrs. R. W. Bilkey, R. Fulton, 7V Hancock, J. Kennelly, E % 11. Keating, T. E. Keven, F. J. Morrow. G. T. Proude. C. E. Waller and A. J. Prescott. Mr, R. J. Glasgow, of Onewhcro, has been appointed to the committee to fill the vacancy caused l ; y the death of Mr. E. F. Muir, of Onewhero. A further vacancy remains to be filled at the annual meeting. WINOOKA IN AMERICA SATISFACTORY TRAINING (Received July 17, 5.5 p.m.) SAN FRANCISCO, July 1G Winooka's training has been continuing satisfactorily, and he has been trotting and galloping daily. He will make a public trial run next Saturday. However, some question concerning the advisability of a race between Winooka and Frisky Matron has been raised by the trainer, Mr. M. Poison, who says he fears the horfe may not be at its best, and he would like an extra two weeks' preparation to feel safer. He points out that defeat at the first appearance would be disastrous to the American invasion. Winooka's backers have been offered n match race on the Gersham track early in August,- but they indicated that they would refuse because of the short circumference of the track.
