OPERATIC SOCIETY
SUCCESSFUL SEASON "CLOCHES DE CORNEVILLE *' At the concluding performance of the comic opera "Les Cloches de Corneville" by the Auckland Amateur Operatic Society at His Majesty s Theatre last evening, Mr. F. E. de Guerrier, chairman of the committee, said the season had been a financial success, as well as an artistic one. Owing to the loss entailed by the last production, the society had to consider the wisdom of another production while conditions wero unfavourable. It was decided to make a special effort with "Les Cloches de Corneville," and it was sufficient to say the society would shortly be considering the next opera. The vice-presidents had been generous in guaranteeing a substantial sum of hioney for "Les Cloches de Corneville," but, apartf from there being no need to call upon the guarantors, a partial recovery had been made on the loss by the last production. The producer. Miss Daphne Knight, spoke briefly and Mr. Colin Muston, musical director, and Mrs. M. B. Neil, pianist, also appeared on the stage.
