TAXI-DRIVER FINED

AN UNLICENSED SERVICE In a reserved judgment in the Otahuhu Magistrate's Court yesterday Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M., imposed a fine of £3 and costs on William Elliott, a Gisborno taxi-driver, who was convicted of operating a motor-car as a passenger service vehicle while not licensed by the authorities. When the chso was heard evidence was given by the Main Highways traffic inspector, Mr. ,E. Barrett, that defendant had been making frequent trips in his taxi between Gisborne and Auckland. This was admitted by defendant, who stated ho only made such trips when hired by persons and that lie did not charge individual fares from passengers.
