CAMPAIGN ARRANGEMENTS THE QUEEN CONTEST Tho arrangements for the holdinc of Prosperity Week, which begins on Monday, July 31, are now well advanced and tho plans for many novel attractions and events promise to make tho week one of the most successful of its kind ever held in tho city. A meeting of the. general committee was held yesterday when tho methods to bo adopted in carrying the campaign through to a successful conclusion were explained by the organiser, Mr. D. 1). McDonald. The Mayor, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, thanked the various young ladies who had volunteered to act as queen candidates. In answer to a number of requests, the organiser announced that accommodation would be set aside for spectators on tho occasion of the ball in tho Town Hall. Ho also stressed the point that every contribution to tho fund, whether by the purchase of a ticket for any of the many functions or in the form of a donation, would count in an equivalent number of votes to the group queen indicated by tho contributor. Speaking at tho weekly luncheon of the Auckland Rotary Club yesterday, the Mayor referred to tho Prosperity Week movement and said ho was particularly pleased with tho way in which the idea had captured tho imagination of the people of Auckland. He said that if the Rotary Club lent its united support the enterprise would be an even greater success. The Auckland Electric-Power Board at its meeting yesterday decided to donate the sum of £250 to tho Mayor's fund.

Tho worthy use to which all money received will be applied, tho relief of distress arising from unemployment and tho difficulties of the times, needs no commendation. Many homes in Auckland faco a sad prospect as a result of the prevailing economic stress. The shadow of unemployment has fallen 1 darkly upon them, and tho remaining months of winter will see their needs intensified. The campaign for funds has been launched in a wholehearted endeavour to brighten tho lot of those who faco discouragement, and. by contributing generously, those of tho community who are more fortunately placed can do a work of lasting good. The Hekald list has been placed in the public office, Queen Street, and readers may contribute personally or by post. Contributions will bo acknowledged in the Herald.
