TOURISTS BY AKAROA SOME TO COME AGAIN [from out OWN CORRESPONDENT] LOXDON, Jime 1 Of tho 50 passengers who made tho • round voyage in the Shaw, Savill liner Akaroa, several have made up thoir *- minds to repeat tho experience next winter. Mr. W. J. Douglas, passenger manager of tho company, who went to Now Zealand in tho Akaroa, says that the tourists wero all delighted with tho scenery of both islands, which far surpassed even their most sanguine expectations. "I have heard of Rotorua for many years," he added, "but until 1 saw it for myself I had no real conception of tho wonders of its hot springs and geysers. The glow-worm eaves at Waitomo were well worth a journey across the world jo see. In tho South Island, which English tourists are sometimes obliged to miss, is probably the least spoiled scenery in tho civilised world. The journey from Hokitika, the centre of tho West Coast gold rushes of the 'sixties, to Franz Josef Glacier is unsurpassed. The ice of the glacier conies right down to sea level and its setting in the green native forest is superb. Mount Cook and the motor drive through the Bullor Gorge are other attractions which no visitor should miss." .. f Mr. Douglas spoke very highly ot the Tourist Department. This, he said, is co-operating very closely with tuo company in arranging tours. _ fcvery possible detail is thought out in advance." ho said, "and nobody need be deterred by ignorance of the co from making the journey. Kpundvovage tickets allow the iraveller to miss more than three monthsoftho English winter at a cost of httle more than a pound a day, and the trailer 4 English pound is worth about 25 shil ,_ • ; lings when he goes °n shore, instead <rf v about 14 shillings on the Continent.
