Canadian Anniversary The 66th anniversary of the establishment of Canada as a self-governing Dominion, which fell on Saturday, was observed in Auckland. Tho Canadian Trado Commissioner, Mr. C. M. Croft, received visits from the Mayor, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, and a number of business people, including those whoso interests are associated with Canada. Poaching of Fish

Drivers' Licences Inspected City Council traffic inspectors, working in co-operation with officers of tho various local bodies in tho metropolitan area, carried out an inspection of motor-driver.;' licences yesterday afternoon. Officers were stationed at key points on all the main thoroughfares serving tho city end suburbs, so that a complete "heck of all motorists on the roads, was obtained. It was found that a number of drivers had failed to take r;ut licences for tho current year and that many moro had left their licences at home. These latter were requested to produce their licences to-day at the office of tho local authority concerned. Oxford Movement Centenary Tho centenary of tho Oxford Movement in the Church of England will bo celebrated in many churches throughout Now Zealand next Sunday, tho day appointed by tho Archbishop of Canterbury for its observaneo in England. On Thursday, July 13, the evo of tho day of tho centenary, there will be a service of thanksgiving in St. Mary's Cathedral, Parncll. Archbishop Averill will preach and special prayers for tho Church will be offered. Other commemorative services include Holy Eucharist in St. Thomas' Church, Freeman's Bay, on July 14, and a requiem for leaders of tho movement in St. Paul's Church on July 15.

First-aid at Football An indication of tho considerable call made upon the services of the St. John Ambulance at sports fixtures was provided on Saturday at tho Domain, where no fewer than 4S members of football teams received attention 011 the field. Tho injuries were of a minor nature, consisting largely of slight concussion and small cuts and abrasions. Tho demand for iodine and bandages was consequently large. Outbreak of Measles

A fairly widespread outbreak of measles lias occurred recently in the Auckland district, according to notification received at tlio local office of the Health Department. Dr. T. J. Hughes, medical officer of health at Auckland, said yesterday that the outbreak was really seasonal, as it was quite common for a largo number' of cases to be reported at this time of the year. Dr. J. Boyd, also of the Health Department, said complaints had been received from some schools, but it was not considered necessary to close schools except in cases of special emergency. Generally speaking children were safer attending school, where tlic.v could be kept under observation. City Rates and Relief Loans

Resolutions striking tlio rates which wcro fixed by the Auckland City Council on .June 22 will be* presented for confirmation at a special meeting of the council to be held to-morrow afternoon. Tho issue of the first rate notices will follow the adoption of these resolutions, so that the last day for the payment of rates before tho 10 per cent penalty becomes due will bo some time toward tho end of January, instead of December, as was the case this year. In addition the council will have before it for confirmation resolution:; authorising the raising of a loan of £121,450 for a number of unemployment relief works. The principal works, with tlio amounts which it is proposed to spend on them, are the reconditioning of tho Waitakero pipeline, £05,000; city stormwater drainage, £30,000; Mount Hobson reservoir, £l-1,500. The remainder of the loan is to be devoted to street improvement works throughout the city area.,
