HARRIER RACING
CLUB RUNS DECIDED GOOD STANDARD SET A road run of six miles was hold by (lie University Harrier Club on Saturday from the residence of Mr. M. E. Ball, Atherton Road, a vice-president of the club. The course led up to the Mount Albert Road, then out to Waikowhai, and back by the Hillsborough Road. An exceptionally fast pace was set by all three packs, and team running was engaged in in preparation for flic Onehunga to Auckland road race next Saturday. The standard generally was much higher than at any time last season. Although the club has lost four members of last year's first team, competition for places was again keen. The following team for the road race wag chosen after the run:—R. C. Haszard, A. L. Ball, H. E. Carter, T. A. Hooper, H. T. Jellie and E. Holmes. Emergencies: K. Watson. and T. Holmes. At the conclusion of the run, the club captain, Mr. R. C. Haszard, thanked Mr. and Mrs. Ball for their services to the club. A scratch run-in was held over the final 500 yards. Hole, a new member i-an well for third place. The result was:—E. A. Goodwin, 1; J. Howie, 2; G. Hole. 3; T. Holmes, ■I; G. J. Sccats, 5; J. C. Graham, G. AYKSLICY CLUB The Wesley Harrier Club held a training run over the 10,000 metres course at Avondale. on Saturday. The members were divided into two packs. The fast pack finished as follows:—X. F. Skyrme, 6 PUJvSIiYTKH lAN CLUB Members of the Presbyterian B.iblc Class Harrier Club held a run on Saturday, finishing with a two and a-balf miles road finish. The results were:—Fast pack: W. It. Kedgley, 1: J. E. Edwards. '2; R. Linfoot, 3: A. J. Wilderspin, i. Slow pack: G. Clouston. 1; It. Dorman. 2: J. W. Edwards, 3; M. G. McNeil and H. Young, deadheat. 4. The team selected for the Onehunga to Auckland road race, to be held next Saturday. was announced as follows:—J. J. B. Neil (captain), W. H. Kedgley. L. C. Rice, R. Linfoot. J. E. Edwards,,, A. J. Wilderspin. Reserve: J. W. Edwards. TECHNICAL OLD BOYS' CLUB There was an attendance of over 40 harriers at the run conducted by the Technical' College Old Boys' Athletic Club, held from Wallace Street, Herne Bay, on Saturday. A long run of some eight miles was hold from Heine Bay to Point Chevalier and back, and the run was voted a huge success. The runners divided into two packs, under L. C. Barker and T. M. Wilson, and good form was shown by the majority, particularly Dawson, White and Mortimer. At the conclusion of the outing, the runners were entertained to afternoon tea. anifl on behalf of the club, the president, M/. R. G. Kirkwood. thanked Mr, Gudsell, the club captain, and Mr. and Mrs. Williams for the hospitality extended. Mr. R. Cameron, the New Zealand champion walker, was presented with a gift of crockery by Mr. S. J. Gudsell, on behalf of the club, on the occasion of his recent marriage. The club selectors, Messrs. R. G. Kirkwood and A. Moon, have announced the following teams for next Saturday's Onehunga to Auckland road race:—A team: W. S. Bainbridge, A. G. Bradley, N. F. Cooper, J. Nicholson (captain), W. Pelham, A. W. White. B team: A. G. Harding. G. Hill. F. Knight, J. Mortimer. D. Ohms. T. M. Wilson (captain). Emergency: D. Knight. CALLIOPE CLUB Members of the Calliope Harrier Club took part in a 10-miles run over both road and cross-country on Saturday. Two packs left with a 10-minutes interval between them and a sound pace was set over the full journey. In the slow pack Armour and Dnimmond did well, with all the fast pack men showing up favourably. A run-in, held over the lust 410 yards resulted as follows: —A. E. Davis, 25yds, 1; A E. Clayton, 25yds. 2; W. I?. Armour. 20yds, W. C. McConihie, scr, 4; 1/ Lanigan, 30yds, 5. Before the run the team to contest the Onehunga-Auckland road race was announced as follows:—S. Andrews, W. Whitmore, A. Clow. W C McCombie, A. G. Davidson, W. Charman and A. E. Clayton (one to be.omitted) W. R. Armour and A. E. Davis will also run as individuals. The result of the run-in competition was: —A. E. Davis, 1; R. Lanigan, 2; R. Drummond, and A. E. Clayton, dead-heat, 3.
